There are so many hotels, hostels and Airbnb in Playa Del Carmen, and I think it is almost impossible to tell which is the best place to stay. It must depend on what you want to achieve during your stay. A quite room? A nice pool? proximity to the beach and night life? so many decisions. But if you are on our blog, we focus on the comfort of the hotel and the proximity of the beach and nightlife in the range of $100-$400 a night hotels.
Rosewood Mayakoba, Banyan Tree, Grand Velas, Viceroy hotels seem to be an excellent choice, but it is 10 minute drive into the city center and all-inclusive service is not really my cup of tea. But if you are a newly-wed or a couple on fire, these hotels might be a good choice. Some can go over $1,000 dollars a night, so watch out girls!
So, here is my choice of top hotels in Playa del Carmen (All in the city center).
Grand Hyatt Hotel
Grand Hyatt hotel is probably the best hotel in Playa Del Carmen. It is on the beach front with every room being spacious and clean. Each room has a balcony or a connected pool balcony which is awesome.
I mean… Grand Hyatt hotel is already known for their creative and trendy hotels everywhere. So if you can drop around $300 per night, definitely go for the Grand Hyatt hotel. Also, sign up for their membership which will cost nothing, because the service is always better when you are a member of the hotel.
Hilton hotel AKA The Fives Downtown Hotel & Residences
If you don’t have $300 to drop, but $150 is more on the range, go for the Hilton hotel. We stayed at the Hilton, The Fives Downtown Hotel & Residences, during our stay in Playa Del Carmen. It was a soft opening, so there were still construction going on here and there, but I fell in love with the Hiltons.
The service was above and beyond. They made sure we were O.K. from the check in to check out giving us great recommendations. The rooms are a typical Hilton room with a big comfortable bed and a nice sofa. Our standard room actually had another seating area which was awesome. They also have a small kitchen where you can cook if you are not a fan of the food in Playa Del Carmen.
The pool is an infinity pool with the view of open sea. You won’t get this view from the Grand Hyatt hotel. The gym is equipped with Techno Gym which is the best. It is only a small hotel, so the staffs are very attentive. And mostly it is in the heart of downtown, but still really quite.
Thompson hotel
Thompson hotel is already on the rise in New York to compete with the big corporations like Marriott or Hilton. But I didn’t know until I came to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico that they had Thompson hotel.
It literally felt like they moved New York into Playa Del Carmen.You have two options to choose from the Beach House to Downtown. With my favorite restaurant in New York, Catch, and the similar exterior of New York Thompson hotel, I felt like back in home.
The Beach House Thompson hotel is only five minutes away from the downtown, but has more of the relaxing vacation vibe with beautiful people. Every room in beach house has a view of the sea with a balcony. But the downtown Thompson hotel offers a reasonable price range. The beach house costs around $400 dollars, and the downtown costs around $200.
