We all know, Miami is a little slow on food trends but I am glad there are people who are looking to change the scene. And K Ramen is one of the pioneers in changing the food industry in Miami. When I first moved to South Beach, Miami, I was desperate to find a Japanese ramen joint. Well, you can find some ramen at some Japanese restaurants, but it is not as good nor authentic. There was no Japanese ramen focused restaurants like Ippudo or Toto Ramen. But things are changing thanks to K Ramen Miami.
OVERALL
- The only and the best Japanese ramen restaurant in South Beach, Miami
- Comparable to Ippudo which has excellent food by bringing the freshest and proper ramen ingredients
- Atmosphere is true to its root and culture
- Detailed, thoughtful and experimental drinks
- A roof top bar for drinks and views of the amazing Miami skyline ….. no I haven’t gone made or got sun stroke
- Let me explain
LOCATION
K Ramen is located on Collins avenue a block from South beach. It is located in the basement of the Townhouse hotel. The Townhouse is a very famous hotel and has hosted many celebs over its long history. It’s a side entrance and not immediately easy to find but it’s worth persevering to find this great venue.
AMBIANCE
When you approach K Ramen you first see the traditional white Miami Art Deco hotel facade – is there really a good ramen place inside? As you open the door and enter down the stairs you immediately see a different world. As you take in the atmosphere you start to get the distinctive aromas of Asian food and your appetite rises.
K Ramen’s interior is decorated with Japanese animated characters’ wall paper and there is a TV playing Japanese anime or comedy shows. It feels like you are in Japan!
MENU
The restaurant gets packed right after they open at 6pm with a variety of age groups in eager anticipation of a good ramen. I could see K Ramen becoming a wait-on-line kind of restaurant soon. The menu not only focuses on Japanese food but also with an American twist. I decided to try the top 3 best sellers:
- Chicken wings
- Lobster ramen
- Burger
K Ramen in Miami Is the Only Restaurant that Focuses on Japanese Ramen and It tastes Excellent!
Michael, the manager, told us Tonkatsu ramen is also their top seller, but we wanted to try the lobster ramen as I have not tried it before. As we are waiting for the food we looked at the drinks and the cocktails in particular are interesting with twists on classics and whole new drinks based on a Japanese culture. The drinks are excellent and strong with full of flavour.
Chicken Wings
The chicken wings are large and has good amount of spice. It is a typical Korean fried wings. And don’t forget to ask for their special sauce! It makes the wing taste even better.
Lobster Ramen
The lobster ramen was excellent. I loved every mouthful – it was spicy and rich in flavor. The ramen broth is made of Tonkatsu broth + Kimchi base. It not only is dynamic but depth of flavor is exquisite. If you are into Korean dishes like Kimchi Jjigae, you will definitely love this lobster ramen. Everyone who enjoys ramen should try it – my only plea is a little more lobster would be more than perfect hehe.
Side note: When you have ramen at other restaurants in Miami, the noodles are frozen or not fresh. But here at K Ramen, they only use fresh noodles. Because of lack of ramen restaurants in Miami, they couldn’t find a proper noodle manufacturer. So, they bring it from the best in L.A. That is how much K Ramen cares and to deliver the best ramen to the guests.
P.S. I think I sound too much of a sponsored post lol. But this is not a sponsored post. I just really want K Ramen to succeed. I believe restaurants like K Ramen will bring Miami into a more diverse foodie neighborhood.
Burger
The burger again was very good. The burger itself was soft, full of flavour and comes with everything you need. With a double patty, bacon, eggs, avocado, caramelized onion and spicy sauce. Throw some crispy tots on the side which was my favorite. The flavors here are not a intense as the ramen and if you are still new to ramen but wanted to try K Ramen, go for the burger first.
Drinks
The cocktails are experimental but tasty. They put love and detail into the drinks. Please try the Sakura and Tea Milk Punch.
The idea of going for a ramen on south beach in the warmth of Miami may sound a little strange but believe me it’s not – K RAMEN is a great venue with excellent food and service and a real pride in both the good and drinks it serves. Thank you K ramen for bringing a fair priced Japanese ramen restaurant to Miami Beach!
