This is an extensive instruction of how to buy KTX ticket from Incheon International airport or Seoul Station to Gangneung or Pyeongchang.
We are all excited to go watch the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in Korea. But with very little information about Korea, it can be daunting and scary. First, Pyeongchang is not Seoul. So after arriving at Incheon airport, you will have to take the KTX express train to Pyeongchang or Gangneung. And this route will only operate during Winter Olympics, so there are very little information out there. Moreover, it hasn’t opened yet, so I have gathered all the information you need before coming to Korea for Olympics.
*I will be keep on updating with new information, so please bookmark it revisit when you are close to coming to Korea. (Updated: 10.03.2018, since the Olympic has ended, I am crossing out instructions only applied during Olympics)
Olympics has ended and everything is back to normal. But going to Gangneung or Pyeongchang is still a great choice to get out of the city, and I guess you already know since you are looking how to get to Pyeongchang. So I have updated some of the information that is relevant to 2019!
Tips You Need to Know Before Going to Pyeongchang
There is NO direct KTX from Incheon Airport to Pyeongchang or Gangneung anymore
- You Can go to Incheon Airport to Pyeongchang direct by shuttle
- You can take AREX from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station
- Then Seoul Station to Pyeongchang by KTX

Incheon Airport to Pyeongchang by Bus
The best way to Pyeongchang from Incheon Airport is by bus or shuttle. It will take around 4 hours to get to Pyeongchang.
Price:
- Adults: 30,000 won
- Teens: 24,000 won
- little kids: 15,000 won
Terminal 1
If you get off at terminal 1, this is the timeline and where to get the bus from Incheon Airport to Pyeongchang.
Timeline: 7:30, 9:40, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:30, 18:00, 19:10, 21:40
Terminal 2
Timeline: 7:10, 9:10, 11:40, 12:30, 13:30, 14:40, 16:00, 17:40, 18:50, 21:00

Incheon Airport to Seoul by AREX
To get to Pyeongchang by KTX, now you need to go to Seoul station first from Incheon airport. The easiest way is to take AREX express train from Incheon Airport to Seoul station and transfer. It is 9000 won (8 dollars) on their website (Check the timeline on their website as well). It will take about 40 minutes from Incheon Airport to Seoul station.

You can also go to Seoul station or Seoul in general by bus, but the easiest and fastest way is through AREX express train if you are going to Pyeongchang or Gangneung.
Seoul to Pyeongchang by KTX
If you are getting off at Seoul station from AREX, all you need to do is transfer to KTX.
