Arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
Once you’ve landed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and collected your luggage, make your way to the Arrivals Hall.
Look for Buses and Hotel Shuttles. These signs are located throughout the airport and will guide you to the bus stops.
Buying Your Bus Ticket
Before you board the bus, you’ll need a ticket. Luckily, you have a few options for purchasing one:
- Online: You can purchase your ticket ahead of time here. Having an e-ticket saves you the hassle of buying one upon arrival.
- From the bus driver: You can also buy your ticket directly from the driver, but paying with a contactless card or credit card is preferred.
The current fare (as of 2024) for a one-way adult ticket is €6.5. Always double-check prices as they may vary slightly.
Finding the 397 Bus Stop
Now that you have your ticket, head towards Schiphol Plaza, the main entrance and shopping area right outside the airport. From here, you’ll see signs directing you to the bus stops, which are just outside the plaza.
Look for Platform B17—this is where the 397 bus departs from.
You’ll see the red and grey R-net buses, and most buses will have a clear sign showing 397 and its final destination, Leidseplein.
Boarding the 397 Bus
Once at the bus stop, wait in line to board. Buses come frequently, so even if you miss one, the next should arrive within 10-15 minutes.
As you board, either scan your e-ticket or show your paper ticket to the driver.
The bus has designated luggage storage areas near the front, which is convenient if you’re carrying large bags.
