Even though it is a tourist trap, Little Italy is a fun place to hang out. Still tight to its Italian roots, you feel the Italiano vibe. The energy of the people outside trying to lure into their restaurants, people playing music and the all year around christmas shop. Mulberry St definitely is the place to walk down. However, I have tried several Italian restaurants there and I always feel a bit scammed by the discretionary tips and additional charges (It still is not bad, but for some reason not pleasant). And when you search “Guide to Little Italy”, “Tips to Little Italy” and “Best Restaurants in Little Italy” on Google all seems too sponsored to me.
Aunt Jake’s is the only fast casual Italian in Little Italy
You can easily leave Mulberry St and go to Parm, Rubirosa or Osteria Morini which are one of my favorite Italian Restaurants, but if you want to stay in Mulberry St, I would definitely recommend Aunt Jake’s. Aunt Jake’s follows the trend of fast casual restaurant where you can create your own pasta.
Fast casual restaurant usually don’t have a full table service, but still delivers a higher quality food with fresh or farm to table style ingredients than other fast food restaurants. You can call it the healthy fast food. Popular type of food is burgers, salad, tacos and pizza. But it can be almost any type of food and pasta is one of my favorite. Italian fast food that isn’t Pizza Hut.
Customize Your Dish with Fresh Pasta
Customizing your own pasta is something I always wanted. It gives you total control in life – OK! I’m exaggerating, but it is awesome!! 
When I was in college 10 years ago, there was an Italian fast food restaurant called Zas. It’s still there and you can check it out here. And here in New York, you go to Little Italy, Aunt Jake’s, and have customized pasta. It just brought back my old memory and happiness when I had less stress and simpler life in college.
You will slowly realize that I love noodles and pasta where all the sauce soaks in. I like good pastas when it’s well made and andante. Almost 9 out 10 I will end up ordering Carbonara. Tell me I’m boring but I can’t help it! And YES, I ordered carbonara and it was amazing! It is very comforting and filling when you eat carbonara
Aunt Jake’s use fresh home made pasta and you can actually see the process. And the menu changes pretty often, so you will not get bored even you go everyday.
Aunt Jake’s Will Bring Back the Old Fun Mulberry St with a Twist of Youth
You will say Aunt Jake’s doesn’t really feel like Mulberry St and is not set with the culture of the other Italian-American joints, but I love seeing when the old and new blends in together. In my opinion, it will actually create more dynamic culture and also open up their demographics. None of my friends like going to Mulberry St, because it feels like a tourist trap, but I think I can finally lure them with Aunt Jake’s.
Alternative Choice in the Neighbor: This is the prefect date restaurant that will guarantee you to get into his pants or hers
