[Why I Paid 50 Pounds Alone to Eat at Bao London]

Every time I come to London, one of the things I resent is that I do not get to have much Asian food. But in recent few years, things have changed. I still haven’t found any good Korean restaurants (except Seoul Bakery and Assa), but I found many good Chinese restaurants from Chinese to Taiwanese. When I visited London last year, I fell in love with BAO.

BAO Is a Restaurant that Focuses on BAO Buns

Recently Bao opened a second one in Fitzrovia with the same menu. I am staying in Fitrovia, and couldn’t just pass by everyday and not go eat it. So here I am after visiting the Fitrovia Bao restaurant and writing a review.

Bao is a famous Taiwanese dish. Usually they use pork belly and a special white bun  that looks like a sandwich. Pork Belly can be substituted with other ingredients from fried chicken to vegetable.

BAO London Bakes Their Own Buns In House

I love it, because it is easy to eat and tastey. I used to order as an appetizer whenever I went to Ippudo in New York. BTW, there is Ippudo here in London, and I tried it before. You can read about it here.

Bao London follows the trend of making their menu tapas style

So, it was intriguing to find a restaurant that focuses on only Bao. Bao buns are fluffier and lighter than the buns we get on the street. You can tell that every single one of bao was baked with special care. YES, they bake their buns in their own bakery.

Bao London Menu

The menu focuses on Bao, but they also have some special dishes. I tried the fried chicken and the oyster which were excellent. Here is where you can check the menu.

Some of The Things You Should Know Before

  • The line is always long, so be prepared to wait, or go around 3PM like me. Then there will be no line 🙂
  • I understand they make everything from scratch, but the price is quite expensive
  • Bao London Can Be Expensive with Smaller Portion (TAPA STYLE). Don’t go too hungry

For me, it came out to be almost 50 pounds and I was still hungry. But I also ordered a small sake. I had to go home and have ramen. If I were rich, I would have ended ordering like 4 more buns lol
