Best Jokbal and Bossam in Seoul Is NOT Manjok Ohyang Jokbal

What Is It?

Jokbal (족발) is one of the most popular dish in Korea. O.K. I probably said that on every dish, but this is known to give you wrinkle free skin because of abundant gelatine in.

So, what is jokbal. It is basically a pig feet cooked with soy sauce. It sounds shocking and gross like the live octopus, but once you go jokbal, you won’t stop eating it.

If you a little turned off and clicking away STOP! You can also check my other blog post where I am giving you delicious 60 different dishes you can try in Korea. Check it out right here

Bossam is a different style of pork belly cut than Samgyupsal, boiled and thinly sliced. The meat is served with radish salad, garlic, Ssamjang, Kimchi and all sorts of vegetable. You might have heard this dish from David Chang’s Ssam Restaurant

Jokbal is Part of Big Feet and Bossam is a Part of Belly, and Known to Be Served Together

The reason I put Jokbal and Bossam in one post is because usually if they sell Jokbal, they will also sell Bossam.

Best Jokbal and Bossam in Seoul (Where Should I Eat Jokbal in Seoul, Korea?)

Jangchung-Don Jokbal Street (장충동 족발 골목)

You can find Jokbal in many restaurants all over Korea, but Jangchung-Dong Jokbal Street is probably where all the best Jokbal and Bossam restaurants are in Seoul. It is a small street with hundreds of jokbal restaurants. They will all claim to be the best jokbal and bossam in Seoul, and I think there is not much difference between restaurants. I guess you can go with the longest line lol.

If you are curious about going to Jangchung-Don Jokbal Street, below picture is how to get there.

How to Get to the Famous Jangchung-Don Jokbal Street (장충동 족발 골목):

  1. Take the 3 Line (Orange Line) to Dongguk University
  2. Exit from #3 or #2, then walk up and
  3. You will see multiple restaurants Choose one

Go for the longest line restaurant, but all of them are pretty decent jokbal restaurants

Manjok Ohyang Jokbal (만족 오향 족발)

This can be an adventurous journey as not many people will speak fluent English, and it can be a challenge. Here is a catch. Klook offers to take you to the restaurant with a guide. It is quite reasonable as well. Klook will take you to one of the famous chain, Manjok Ohyang jokbal (만족 오향 족발).

Jokbal and Bossam Delivery

BUT ! Best Way to Eat Jokbal and Bossam Are to Get It Delivered to Your Home or Airbnb

But my favorite way to eat Jokbal is to get a delivery. Maybe the post title was a little dramatic. Manjok Ohyang is pretty good, but you can still get so much for what you pay, and you don’t have to leave the house.

makgooksoo (막국수)

You get it delivered, and eat it while you watch some Korean Soap Drama lol. This can be super challenging for non-Korean speaking people, and I wrote a detailed post on how to order delivery. It is in my best fried chicken delivery in Seoul, and scroll all the way to the bottom, and it explains exactly what you need to do to do delivery.

Here is a short video of us ordering delivery and unwrapping 🙂

How Does It Taste Like and How to Eat Jokbal?

Jokbal tastes like a braised pork rib, but slightly greasier. If you are into fatty food, this is a heavenly match for you. Just writing this blog post is making me want some jokbal right now. Don’t get put off by the idea of eating the feet, because it is absolutely gorgeous. And if you are put off and you read it all the way down here, you should still try it.

joomokbab (주먹밥), which is rice with dry seaweed. Usually comes on a side with bossam

If you are ordering both Jokbal and Bossam, it will come with many different types of side dishes. You can eat it many different ways, but this is how I eat jokbal.

  1. I put my jokbal in napa cabbage
  2. Then I put Ssamjang, garlic, jalpeno, and Kimchi
  3. It sounds gready, but right after that I slurp on Makkugsoo (막국수). You will have to order this seperately
