How Jamsugyo Has Become the Best Pork BBQ in Seoul

Haebangchon is the new Itaewon where all the expats and hip locals hang out. And in Haebanchon, there is the hottest best Pork BBQ in Seoul. 

It is so popular you have to wait an hour to three hours even during pandemic. The Pork BBQ place is call Jamsugyo.

Jamsugyo actually is a name of a bridge.

I am not sure why they called it that but Jamsugyo has two bridges on top of each other. So when it floods or snows too much lower bridge goes under water.

Pork BBQ Menu

Jamsugyo only sells frozen pork belly (frozen samgyeopsal). 

It might sound unusual to have Pork BBQ in Seoul with thinly sliced pork belly, but it is literally in. 

It has been popular among baby boomers in the 80s, especially the restaunt Nari’s Place (They also just sell frozen samgyeopsal) was where all the cool kids used to go after partying till 4:00AM.

Now with Gen Zs and Milleniul, they brought the nostagic look but palletable to younger kids. 

Palletable means more side dishes and dipping sauce.

Also the difference between other samgyeopsal restaurant in seoul is that jamsugyo actually cooks for you. 

Also, I haven’t seen anybody put pepper in Korean BBQ, but jamsugyo did. And surprisingly it was awesome. 

Once it is almost cooked, they put garlic stems, garlics, Kimchi, marinated scallion and more on the pork oil.

Yes, on top of the pork oil where it the vegetable absorbs the oil. Sorry, but just writing about it is making me drool lol. 

Of course you can eat it as you want but at gamsugyo you put the cook samgyeopsal with cooked scallion, garlic stem and dip it in the raw egg. It is HEAVEN. 

Trust me, you can say any frozen samgyeopsal is the same, but the dipping sauces and the side dishes makes it different. 

And because of all these variety of sauces, Gamsugyo definetly is one of the best samgyeopsal restaurant in Seoul. 

Samgyeopsal Fried Rice

At any bbq place, you HAVE to have fried rice at the end. 

Make sure not to finish all the pork belly, cause with the left over porks he will dice it up and mix it with the rice to make kimchi fried rice. 

It wasn’t the best for some reason, but Koreans call this dessert. 

My Verdict on If Gamsugyo is the best pork BBQ in Seoul. 

First compared to other frozen pork belly restaurants it is definetly on my top 5 list.

One more thing. I went with my grandma and shedidn’t like the idea of using foil to cook. But it didn’t bother me. 

Jansugyo Location

There are several locations in Seoul, so you can just choose closer to your accommodation. 

They don’t take reservation, so you have to wait on line even during corona virus. I recommend going around 4:30PM to avoid the line. 

Frozen Pork Belly Jamsugyo Price List

The Menu is so simple with just frozen pork belly. 

  • Samgyeopsal 1 portion (160g): 13,000 won
  • Fried Rice: 3,000 won
  • Extra Egg : 500won 

But Is It Really the Best Frozen Pork Belly Restaurant?

Yes, with nostalgic decor and many dipping sauces, it is popular among gen zs, but it is really the best? 

I do not think so. I still think Nari’s House in Itaewon is the best frozen pork belly restaurant. Also Nari’s restaurant scallion salad is could be just the reason to go. 

I know jamsugyo has many dipping sauces, but would you want 100 Coach bags or 1 Hermes bag? I feel like it doesn’t matter if you have many dipping sauces. If one is excellent you don’t need that many.

Conclusion. If you are gen z that needs to take nice instagram pictures and have nice food jamsugyo is good. If you are a baby boomer who just cares about food, I recommend Nari’s house.
