Best Transportation from Mexico City Airport (I Tried It All)

There are three types that are the best transportation from Mexico city airport to city centre. I tried it all, so you can use it with ease.

I will also give some pros and cons of these method.

Best Transportation from Mexico City Airport

In a nutshell, if you are not on a budget, taxi or Uber is the best option. It will cost around 8 dollars to 20 dollars.

If you don’t have much luggage and are on budget (It will only cost about 25 cents) metro is another option. Though you will have to probably transfer at least once (more later).

You can also get a bus, but unless you know Mexico city, I wouldn’t recommend. It is really confusing cause you will have to constantly be ready for the announcement.

Taxi and Uber

This is the easiest, fastest way to get the city centre from Mexico city airport.

Once you get out of luggage claim from the airport, you will see several taxi services.

The taxi services inside the airport are all authorised, so you can book it with ease.

You just have to tell the clerk where you are going, and they will give you a ticket after you pay.

The prices are slightly different but to Zocalo, it was 250 pesos. My friend paid 300 pesos to get to Roma.

Where do you get your taxi?

You just walk out and you will see signs of each company. Below is terminal 1 and 2.

Taxis are convenient and less stressful (in terms of looking for car etc), but one downside of taxi is that is is more expensive than Uber.

Of course, if you arrive at 3:00AM, you have no choice but to use the taxi service, but I would recommend Uber otherwise.

I arrived around 5 AM and it was almost 50% cheaper than taxi (which was 130 pesos).

Below is the screencapture of the moment.

Like most airports nowadays, the pickup location is designated. NUM 3 it is.

METRO

There are few things before you get on metro.

Mexico City Airport Airtrain

Things to Know :

  • Metro is on Terminal 1 side, so if you are on terminal 2, you will need to take a airport shuttle (You can’t use air-train unless you have a flight at terminal 1, I know weird rule)
  • Metro is extremely busy during rush hour (It is not a special train for just travellers)

Metro Time Table

  • Mon – Fri : 05:00 am – 00:00 am
  • SAT: 06:00 am – 00:00 am
  • Sunday & Holidays : 07:00 am –  00:00 am

If you are on terminal 1, just follow the sign “Terminal Aerea (Line 5).

If you follow the sign, you will see the entrance for the metro.

How to Get from Mexico City Airport Terminal 2 to Terminal 1

If you on terminal 2, there are two ways you can go to terminal 1

  • Shuttle bus
  • Sky line : but like I said, you need a plane ticket that you are leaving from terminal 1

So, I guess there is only one option

Terminal Bus

If you are on terminal 2, just follow the bus sign.

At the end of terminal 2, you go out and will see a red bus saying Tetsa.

The price is 30 pesos.

The bus will have few more stops in between which is “Hangares Station (Line 5)” which you can get off here for metro. Or Terminal 1 which is “Terminal Aerea (Line 5).

Air Train

Like I said you can just easily get on Air train for free, but like the picture I took below “passengers with boarding pass only.”

Pick Up Service

If you don’t want any of these hassle, the best is to a pick up service.

The driver will be out holding your name.

It will cost about 25 dollars per person.

I think it is actually not that expensive compared to other cities like London or Paris.
