It was Feb 5th. I was walking around South Beach in Miami and realized these boy scouts were walking down the boardwalk like zombies. I found out that they walked almost 35 miles for 2 days from Palm Beach all the way down to Miami Beach. It is called Barefoot Mailman Hike. They were kids as young as 9 years old (I think ).
According to Boy Scout America, Barefoot Mailman hiking is the original U.S. Mail route from 1885 to 1892. This route was not connected like now, and the mailmen had to blaze through the sands of the coast and cross the water inlets. They often fished for their food and slept outdoors taking a week to finish their journey. However, one of the mailman disappeared and never found the body. So, in memory of the lost soul, boy scout started hiking the same route as those mailman. The reason it is called Barefoot is cause the mailmen often walked barefoot. We found one of the mom who was waiting for their kids, and had a chance to interview about her passion and what this Barefoot Mailman Hike is.
The Boy Scout Mom Believe Your Passion Should Fill Your Heart
She was really proud of her sons to walk 35 miles and was waiting anxiously for their sons arrival. Her passion was always to educate and become a teacher. She never made it, but she told us that she is living her dream in Miami.
