Hotel Hunting: Hudson Hotel in New York City

We have spent some time before at the Library bar in Hudson for our friend’s BDay party and it was nice, and it was time for us to stay at the Hudson. Y’all know that I love Morgans Group hotels. I will start with the overall, so if you are a busy man you don’t have to read all my blog.

OVERALL

Pros

  • Reasonably priced room rates in midtown
  • Amazing lobby and bars
  • Located in the center of the city with many subway stations (close to Central Park and Time Warner building)
  • Malin & Goetz products for you

Hudson hotel is Perfect for Travelers Who Are Going to Do a Lot of Sightseeing And Not Spend Much Time in the Hotel

Cons

  • Reasonably priced rooms are tiny
  • Thin walls
  • A massive hotel with many rooms (If you try to go out during busy times, it could take around 10 minutes to just get on the elevator)
  • Because of many rooms, it feels like a chicken cage that you are entering

Hudson in New York Is not the Best for People who are Looking to Spend Some Time at the Hotel

LOCATION

Hudson hotel is located in Hells Kitchen where it has loads of nice restaurants and bars. Also, it is only a block away from Central Park and Time Warner Building. And the best part is that it is close to subway stations that will take you West, East, South and North (N, Q, R, W, A, C, B, D). So if you are planning to do a lot of sightseeings, this would be a good location.

PRICE

You will be surprised how cheap it could get. We got a 70 percent promotion and the room only costed 70 dollars (It was the superior room). But generally it would cost around $100 off peak and $250 peak time to stay at Hudson hotel. It is really a reasonable price for a Midtown hotel.

However, there is always a problem when it’s that cheap. They charge you for the facility fee which is very confusing. It is not like where they have a pool or anything. It is more of a wifi charge. And the fee applies everyday. Be aware of the facility fee, cause it will not be charged until you check out. On the website they describe the facility fee as:

Rate does not include a $29.95 USD (plus tax) mandatory Facility Fee per night, per room. Includes: High-speed wireless internet (WiFi) for up to 4 devices at 10MB of bandwidth; All local phone calls; Unlimited use of our 24 hour Fitness Center; Daily food & beverage credit of $10.00 per day -which may not be rolled over to the following day or used in conjunction with any other offer. Amenities and facility fee do not include any service gratuities.

So don’t be surprised when you see an extra $30 on your bill.

LOBBY

So when you go in, the lobby will give you the WOW! Like other Morgans group hotel, the lobby is amazing. With lots of green and chandelier, it makes you feel like you are escaping the concrete jungle.

ROOMS

So the lobby is on point, the price is unbelievable, and you think what could go wrong. As you go into the superior room, you will be surprised how small it can be. And I believe the standard and single rooms are going to be even smaller. So, if you have a huge suitcase you brought, don’t even bother coming to Hudson hotel and choose the smallest room. Because it is so small, it won’t even fit a luggage on the floor.

You can check out our un-rooming of the Hudson hotel superior room here:

What surprises me more is that I can’t even properly sit on a toilet. My knees literally touch the wall. And I am only 5″7′. So if you are tall, you have to go for a bigger room or different hotels.

But I will give a credit on how they utilized such a small room. It has a desk and a 2 closets to hang your clothe. If you think of New York, this room is really screams New York. It just reminded me when I used to live on 36th st with no kitchen.

RESTAURANT & BARS

The bars and restaurants are on point. If you are classy LAADY who likes to sip on cocktail, you can go to the Library Bar. Library bar tends to get busy and if you want to have your own space, you can also go to the Hudson bar. It is also a nice cocktail bar with lots of sit down table.

If you are more of a bro-sports-bar person, you can go to the Hudson Common. It is essentially a beer garden with style. It has a burger/sandwich shop and a bar with 16 different taps. During spring and summer you can stay outside which is actually REALLY nice (because you don’t get that much outdoorsy bars in midtown).

At last, there is a rooftop where you can lounge, but unluckily it was closed for the season, so I have no idea what it’s like. Please let us know below comment if you had a chance to go.
