Miami to Key West Road Trip : Best Places to Stop by Instead of Gas Stations

Miami to Key West road trip was one of the most exciting I did. You drive through the most scenic coastal oversea highway and it is literally only one way where you can cruise through.

But, Miami to Key West drive time is about 4 hours, and it isn’t easy to drive a straight four hours. So you will have to stop by at some point to rest.

You can stop by at a boring gas station, but you can also stop by at some beautiful places. So here are few things to do from Miami to Key West.

You can Miami to Key West road trip itinerary with either going back to Miami or vice versa.

John Pennekan Coral Reef State Park (102 miles away from the Key)

This Coral Reef State Park is the first every underwater park in United States.

There are beautiful mangroves to kayak but if you are into scuba diving, this is THE place to do it.

Unfortunately the coral reefs were not as beautiful as I thought it would be (compared to Mexico), but the man made lions and statues are quite impressive that you feel like you are in a movie AquaMan.

Sal’s Ballyhoo’s (96 miles away from the Key)

Sal’s Ballyhoo’s is seafood restaurant, but why am I putting this on the list?

They have un-limted crab menu, and it also includes stone crabs. Guys, if you are go to Joe’s, you cannot possibly think this would be possible.

And you know we Asians, love our seafood. We had to stop by at this iconic Sal’s Ballyhoo’s.

If you are also a seafood lover like us, please do!

The Mooring Villages (80 miles away from the Key)

Have you seen a TV show Bloodline on Netflix.

who doesn’t like our Foodball Coach Kyle Chandler

They shot the whole series all over keys, but the resort itself was shot on the Mooring Villages.

It is a beautiful resort and if you are planning to split the road tip into two days, this IS the place to take a break.

Robbies (77 miles away from the Key)

In my opinion, Robbies is one of the best things to do from Miami to Key West. Robbies is a restaurant / bar / tarpon feeding ground.

We stopped by here on the way to Key West, and it was not only a good break for a pee and interesting spot to feed the tarpons (which I never saw).

Hogfish Bar and Grill (4 miles away from the Key)

This was also our last stop before arriving in Key West.

Basically at this point, you have arrived in Key West. But because we were before the check in time, we decided to stop by at Hogfish bar.

It is not only a great place to just relax and stretch but their hogfish was absolutely gorgeous. Before checking in, you should stop by here for lunch and head down to the hotel.
