Why Tay Do London Stands Out Among All the Other Vietnamese Places

Tay Do London is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants on Pho Mile, because their Bun Cha and Bun Bo Hue.

Tay Do London

Tay Do London is another hole in a wall type of Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsland road.

 

It might not be popular like Song Que Cafe or Mien Tay, but I go here pretty often because of their special dishes (OK, not special, but not many restaurants do it).

When I went to Vietnam, one of the dish I fell in love was Bun Cha

Bun Cha is a rice noodle dish similar to mori soba where you dip your noodles in a sauce. Bun Cha sauce has meatballs and char grilled pork bellies. It is where Barack Obama had his first Bun Cha in Hanoi with Anthony Bourdain

 

The problem in London is that they serve Bun Thit Nuong and call it Buncha

I was confused when I got Bun Thit Nuong when I ordered Bun Cha. And was disappointed. 

It was almost all restaurants, and none of the Vietnamese restaurants really had Hanoi version of Bun Cha.

Then Tay Do London started serving Hanoi Bun Cha. And let me tell you. 

IT IS GOOD. Ok, not like what you have it on the streets of Hanoi with tons of garlic and chilli pepper, but it is as close as it can get. 

 

Their Pho is good (I think a lot lighter side compared to Mient Tay or Song Que), but Bun Bo Hue is amazing. 

Every Vietnamese restaurant, even Pho Cafe, serves Bun Bo Hue. But it felt like Tay Do was the closest to the one I tried in Hue.
