(2022 Update) 6 Unique Things to Do ONLY in Chiang Mai

The most unique things to do in Chiang Mai is the sunrise temple tour, but there are some other activities you can do only in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai Woman Correctional Institution Vocational Training Center

This is something that you have to do while visiting Chiang Mai.

This is a training center for the ladies who were in the correctional institution. They learn how to massage and practice on us. Because of that, it is cheaper than other massage shops.

It is a great way to give back to the community and helping the ladies who are trying to come back to life.

There are many massage places where woman from correctional institution graduated and opened their shops. You can visit those, but I think training center is the most interesting one.

Chiang Mai Night Safari Zoo

I am sure if you have been to Africa, this will not be impressing. But I have never been and I don’t think I will be going anytime soon because it is too expensive.

So opted in for the night safari in Chiang Mai. This is one of the things to do in Chiang Mai at night.

You can buy some vegetable before getting to the safari.

You will see the animals up-close and it was kind of scary at one point but when the giraffe came so close to me, I was really excited. I didn’t know how black the giraffe tongue looks like.

Normally it would cost 800 bhat, but you can book it online for 585 bhat.

This is a great activity to do in Chiang Mai after a long walking day looking at the temples.

Sunrise Temple Tour

Many people said this was the highlight of the trip in Chiang Mai. And one of the most unique things to do in Chiang Mai.

Because you go so early there is literally no crowd, and it kind of feels surreal seeing the monks cleaning the temple before sunrise.

There are many other temple tours, but Sunrise tour definitely stands out.

워킹 스트릿 (Tha Pae Walking Street)

It’s a night market that only opens on Sunday.

There were so many street foods and I also got a free haircut lol.

Chat with Monks (Mahamakut Buddhist University Lanna Campus)

This is something you can do anywhere in Thailand, but you can also do in Chiang Mai.

I think it was so sweet because the monks are learning English and this is a great opportunity for them to learn English but mostly because we can also learn about their culture first hand.

Where else can you learn the culture of Thailand first hand authentically? Here in Chiang Mai sir!

Art in Paradise Chiang Mai

Art in Paradise is a trick eye 3D museum. All the arts are 3D like and you can participate in the art.

There are some nicer ones around the world, but I never had a chance to do it.

And it was an itch I had to scratch, cause I constantly see it on Youtube. So I finally went to the one in Chiang Mai.

If you try to take pictures with all the arts, it will at least take an hour and half. For us, it took like two hours.

I didn’t even know the time has past that much. It is a good laugh if you are traveling with few friends.

Ram Bar

We all know a drag show is top notch in Thailand. They even have their own Ru Paul Drag show in Thailand. When you go to Bangkok drag shows, it feels like a polished show. Like you are watching some Hollywood version of the show. But in Chiang Mai, you get to see something that is rough on the edge style drag show.

Drag shows in Chiang Mai is like the cool indie movie that became a sensational box office hit. They take so much pride in doing the show at Ram bar. And the shows are so much better than the ones I saw in Bangkok (Because it felt more real). The stage is small, the costume is limited and the crowd is not big but they make sure everybody has the best time in the bar. So try it if you can!
