Which Area to Stay in Tokyo for Tourist (feat. Best Hotels & Hostels)

There are many blog posts about which area to stay in Tokyo for tourist. But there are so many and as a tourist, we don’t need to know 10 different neighbourhood. just only few that matters.

So here is the list of areas to stay in Tokyo as a tourist.

Which Area to Stay in Tokyo for Tourist

So these are all the area that is easily accessible from Narita / Haneda airport.

So just choose the neighbourhood with your travel personality and then you can go read my other blog posts.

  • Shinjuku : The most convenient location as a tourist. Many restaurants / bars, and well connected metro.
  • Shibuya / Harajuku : Trendy Genzs hang out here a lot
  • Asakusa : Cheap accommodations are all here. One downside is that metro connections are not the best.
  • Akihabara : Otaku heaven (people who love anime / mange / games)
  • Tokyo station : If you are only staying Tokyo for a short period of time and going out to Kyoto or Osaka. Also, good for Disney Land and for concerts (Tokyo dome). Ginza (Like Upper East Side in NY) is close to.
  • Roppongi : I didn’t put on the map, but many tourists go here. But I feel like it’s a bit of a sleazy town. Many night clubs (foreigner friendly).

Shinjuku

Shinjuku is like the Times Square of New York City. So if it is your first time traveling to Tokyo, this is the best option.

Also it has great restaurants / nightlife and easy to get to Shinjuku from Haneda airport or Narita Airport.

If you are looking for five star hotel, Park Hyatt is the best. There is Hilton, but I think Park Hyatt has that it factor.

Even though it is not a five star hotel, there are the famous  JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Shinjuku or Hotel Gracery Shinjuku

If you don’t mind just a best, then Tokyu Stay Shinjuku or the capsule hotel I stayed, Anshin Oyado Premier Shinjukueki-mae (only men). If you are interested in capsule hotel, check my other blog post.

Harajuku / Shibuya

Harajuku / Shibuya is where all the hip people hang out.

So of course, there is a famous boutique hotel that all the hip kids go called TRUNK (HOTEL).

If you are looking for a cheaper accommodation sequence MIYASHITA PARK / SHIBUYA or all day place shibuya is a great choice.

If you are looking for a capsule hotel The Millennials Shibuya is great. It is also a hip and popular hostel. The good thing is that you don’t have to check in / out everyday like other capsule hotels.

Asakusa

If you are looking for something clean and cheap, B:CONTE Asakusa or Asakusa Tobu Hotel is a great option.

If you are looking for a ryokan hotel Kaminarimon Ryokan is a must.

Even though it is not the best location, there are few hostels here cause of the cheap price and  Sakura Hostel Asakusa or Time Sharing Stay Asakusa is the most popular hostels in Tokyo.

Akihabara

This hotel is so popular, it is full most of the time, but if you can get in NOHGA HOTEL AKIHABARA TOKYO is a great choice.

Akihabara Nakagawa Inn is popular among Japanese tourist, and they don’t have a proper bed, and rather sleep on floor.

Many Asians are comfortable doing it.

If you are just looking for a place to sleep JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara was highly recommended by my Japanese friend.

Ginza / Tokyo Station

This is where all the super luxurious hotels are at. Ginza is also known for high-end shopping district.

Four Seasons, Shingri-La, Palace Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, Imperial Hotel  are all in this area. Also, a little cheaper (still expensive) but lesser known hotels like   Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo and oakwood premier tokyo are in Ginza / Tokyo station.

But in my opinion, if you are visiting Japan, I think you should be staying at Muji hotel. or the historice Tokyo station hotel

All of the above is so expensive. And are you just staying in Tokyo station cause you are visiting Tokyo dome for a concert? Then I highly recommend remm Tokyo Kyobashi.

This is all the research I did from Google, through friends and family and Reddit. If there is any other hotels you think it is good, please let us know below comment.
