Everything You Need to Know Before Yeongsil Trail Hallasan Hike

There are 5 Hallasan Hiking trails. For most people who are not used to hiking will go for Yeongsil trail.

Hallasan Yeongsil trail takes about 2 and half hour (round trip about 4 – 5 hours).

Hallasan Hiking

One of the biggest reason people come to Jeju island in the winter is to see flower snow.

Flower snows are the snows that landed on the tree which makes it look like a flower.

When you see it in person, it just somehow give you peace and rids all of your anxiety.

How to Get to Hallasan Yeongsil Trail

As the entrance to Yeongsil trail is in Hallasan, it can be confusing.

So you will need to download the right map.

First you will need to download “Naver Map.” Google map doesn’t work well in Korea.

Naver Map APP
This is Naver Map APP and it works the best in Korea

Then Copy and Paste “한라산 국립 공원 영실 탐방로 (휴게소)”

If you are driving, you will first pass Yeongsil trail information center. You have to drive 2.4KM you will arrive at Yeongsil rest area.

From here, you will start the hike.

You can park at Yeongsil trail rest area, but unless you go early in the morning, you will have to park at the information center and walk up.

From information center to rest area will be about 40 minutes.

Or there will be plenty of taxis waiting, and you can just grab that (It will cost about 10,000 won)

If you are not renting a car, the easiest to hire a transportation.

There are few transportation that offer Hallasan Yeongsil trail. I would recommend booking fro Get Your Guide.

Arrival Time at Hallasan Yeongsil trail

The Last entry to Yeongsil trail is 12:00, so make sure to arrive not too late (if you are just planning to climb Hallasan 윗세오름, you can arrive by 13:00).

Yeongsil trail Characteristic

It is the easiest trail among 5. But unfotuently you are not going to go to Baek Rok Dam.

The route to baek rok dam is currently closed, but let’s hope that it will open again soon.

Even without baek rok dam, they say it is still the most beautiful path, so you will not be missing anything.

One thing I want to say is that it is still climbing a mountain and it isn’t easy like you are just walking around the park. So you need to be a bit prepared.

Things You Need Before You Climb Hallasan

There used to be a market, so people used to eat instant ramen at the top of the mountain.

Now, when you go up Yeongsil trail there is no market, so you will have to bring your own water.

Also, it would be a good idea to bring a small instant cup noodle with hot water / wooden chopstick / plastic bag for trash.

I didn’t think about this, but when you go up, many people are eating their cup noodle and it looked so good (btw, please bring your trash back down).

The last thing which is the most important thing is you have to bring a snow shoe gripper.

It is very slippery and you will fly off to the moon if you don’t have one of these. Please trust me, this will save your life.
