(2022 Update, Fast & Easy) Where and How to Get Thailand Prepaid Sim Card

Getting Thailand Bangkok sim card for tourists is really easy. You can order it online and pick it up at Bangkok airport or you can simply buy it at the airport.

But There are several companies at Bangkok airport, then which SIM card is best in Bangkok?

Which SIM card is best in Bangkok?

There are three companies that you can buy Bangkok sim card for tourists – AIS, Turemove and DTAC.

My Thai friend said AIS and Truemove covers well across Thailand (even small towns in Thailand), and DTAC is good for major cities like Bangkok and Phuket (DTAC is a bit cheaper).

Thailand Sim Card Price

Whichever company use, it will almost be the same price with same data / days.

For example, AIS / Truemove and DTAC will have 8 days unlimted data for about 300 bhat (about 10 dollars).

You just have to choose which company you want to use, and I will give you an idea.

AIS

AIS is probably the one of the biggest network company in Thailand. It is also famous for using Lisa from Black pink as the model.

You can find the counter either at where you pick up your luggage or right after you get out after picking up your luggage.

The left is where you can buy while you pick up your luggage, second image is where you can buy after you pick up your luggage

You can see the price of AIS sim card. For 7 days it can be 219 baht to 299 Baht at the airport.

Then if you check online, there are different options as well.

For some reason, they made it so complicated, so I ended up just going to Truemove (even though there was no line at AIS)

TRUEMOVE

Truemove is another big company in Thailand.

You can easily get Truemove Sim card at Bangkok airport. Same as AIS, you can either get it while you pick your luggage or after you pick your luggage.

You can check below for the days and how much data you can get. It is unlimited data plan, but after certain data it will change from 5G to 3G.

Unlimited data plan in Thailand for 8 days is 300 Bhat.

The negative part about getting Truemove is that it is a popular company, so naturally the line is long.

I waited about 30 minutes to get it.

DTAC

DTAC is another big network company in Thailand. My friend said if you are just going to major cities in Thailand, DTAC is the best choice.

If you are planning to visit smaller towns like Chiang Rai, stick with AIS or Truemove.

You can find DTAC office after you pick up the luggage. Like AIS, there were no lines at the office.

If you buy it online, you can buy it 35% cheaper than at the airport.

You just need to order it online and pick it up at the airport, which I should have done :(.

Things You Need to Know Before Getting Bangkok Sim Card for Tourists

The laws for buying Sim card for tourists have changed slightly. Before you were able to just buy it anywhere, but now you have to show your passport when you buy it.

Also, always make sure it works before you leave. I just once bought it and did it myself and didn’t work and wasted my money!
