Hostels in general can be shady with secret fees and strict rules. Generator hostel Miami is no exception, so today I will answer all the questions you have about this hostel (That I wished I have known before I went).
Location
The beach is 5 minutes walks from Generator Miami.
You can park on the street at Generator hostel, but don’t expect to find any space as usually there is none. So if you are planning to bring a car, you will have to park on private parking.
From Generator hostel to Lincoln road is about 13 blocks and Ocean Drive is more than 15 blocks.
It doesn’t feel too far and it is walkable if it is not too hot. But if it’s a hot summer it will be impossible to walk.
Facilities
Yes! Generator Miami has a restaurant on site which is actually popular among locals.
Also the bar is really where we went there in the afternoon and at night.
Generator Miami has a pool and sunbeds that many people use, but the pool is not heated so not many people actually jump in the pool.
There were random people who just met started sing together at the lounge, and for some reason it felt like I was in some sort of a community.
They do provide free breakfast, but it is really basic. So I usually just went out for breakfast. And here are some of my favourite breakfast places in Miami.

The Rooms
There are private rooms and dorm rooms where you share with people.
The private rooms are pretty nice but not so cheap (let’s talk about price soon). So if you are looking for a cheap hotel, I have a separate post about it.
I stayed on the dorms with my friends and it was really good. I stayed at several Generator hostels from Dublin to Paris, and Generator hostel Miami is by far the cleanest and the best.
There isn’t any shared bathroom outside the room. It is rather a private bathroom shared with four, six an ten.
The interesting thing is that the bathroom is all separated. Interestingly the sink is outside.
And the toilet and the shower is separated.
If you are renting the whole dorm room, I think private bathrooms are good.
But when you are sharing with six people with one bathroom in the dorm can be tough.
Especially if you are trying to use the bathroom at 3:00AM, it can be hard.
So sometimes I prefer to have a shared bathroom where I don’t have to interrupt my roommates.
But unfortunately, Generator hostel Miami has no option for that.
How Much Does It Cost to Stay at Generator Miami?
For dorm rooms, it would normally cost 30 dollars to 60 dollars (during Art Basel can be even more).

Private rooms can be 150 dollars to 300 dollars.
One of the good things about Generator hostel is that the hostel provides towels, pillow, duvet and linens for the bed and shower.
They also provide beach towels (with an exchange with your ID card or passport as a deposit).
Check in / Check Out
Check in and check outs are really strict and I have seen many people complain about it.
Check in is at 15:00 and the check out is at 11:00. But you can pay extra 10 dollars to stay till 13:00.
Remember as they are quite strict and they will charge you if you check out late.
