Tongyeong is known for their fresh seafood and excellent dishes. I will make a separate post on the best food to eat in Tongyeong, but today let’s list the best 3 chungmu kimbap in Tongyeong.
Chungmu Kimbap
Chungmu Kimbap is different than what we normally eat.
Tongyeong (the town name was originally Chungmu) was a fishing town, and when the fishers went out to the sea, they would bring kimbap.
But the problem with kimbap was it didn’t stay fresh while on the sea for all day.
So they had to change the recipe and use food that will last a long time. That is how Chungmu Kimbap was born.
Napoli Chungmu Kimbap
To be honest, I couldn’t tell the huge different in taste among many restaurants.
Most of the restaurants are gathered around Jungang Market and Tongyeong Ferry Terminal.
Among all those restaurant, there is one that was featured on network TV show.
Adress: 177-366 Seoho-dong, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea
It doesn’t mean that it should be the best, but it was really good. And the service was nice.
Chungmu Kimbap consists of maki style roll (no fillings) and spicy marinated fish cakes, spicy squids and raddish kimchi.
You dip in the roll in a soy sauce and then eat it with those side dishes.
It is a very simple meal but gives you that unkown nostalgia of the fishermen.
Tungbo Halmae Kimbap House
Tungbo Halmae is closer to Jungang Market.
It is probably the most famous restaurant in Tongyeong among travellers and locals.
Due to the popularity, you can also see very similar looking fake ones lol.
If you are planning to go see the replica of the turtle ship or Jungang market, you should definitely try Halmae Kimbap.

Myunga
Myunga is known for the garlicy strong taste on their fishcake and the squid (which I LOVE).
It can be hate or love situation. If you do like garlic and some strong flavor, this is a place to go.

Also, it is close to Dongpilang Village.
