Best Area to Stay in Miami for Tourists (feat. Pros and Cons)

There are so many hotels in Miami and it can be confusing which area to stay. So today, I want to show you the best area to stay in Miami for tourists.

Best Area to Stay in Miami for Tourists

For me there are four neighbourhoods I like to recommend to stay in Miami – South Beach, Mid-Beach, Wynwood, Brickell.

  • South Beach : This is where most of 5 star hotels are at with the famous Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road. 90% of the tourists will stay in this area
  • Mid Beach : This is where the new luxury hotels are all being built. It is only 15 – 20 minute walk to Lincoln road and is becoming a popular area among not only tourists but also locals
  • Wynwood : Wynwood is like the Williamsburg of Miami. It is where all the cool hip locals and the travelers. The only thing is that there isn’t many hotels here
  • Brickell (Downtown) : This is like the Wall street of Miami. A lot of young finance kids live here and good if you are on a business trip

South Beach

South Beach is where most of 5 star hotels AND budget hotels are at.

It is also a perfect location in Miami for tourists because it is close to Lincoln road and Ocean Drive. You won’t need a car to most places.

Best Area to Stay in Miami for Tourists
Bayside of South Beach

On a side Note, the difference between Miami beach and South beach is just a neighbor-hood within Miami beach. Miami beach include mid-beach and north-beach where I will explain more about it later.

South beach is probably the best area to stay in Miami for tourists. But there is one thing you should know before booking in South Beach. There are two sides of South beach – beach side and bay side.

Most people will look into hotels on the beach side cause you can literally just walk two minutes to get to the beach.

But if you are not a beach person, bay side is also a great choice as it is a lot cheaper than the beach side hotels.

Mid – Beach

This town is absolutely the hottest neighborhood right now. It is only where the newest five star hotels are at.

Especially with the developer Faena is changing the whole town with new opera house and art centers.

Even Kim Kardashian bought a resident here.

The hotels you should consider are:

  • Edition Hotel

Wynwood

Wynwood is basically like the Williamsburg of Miami.

It is on the other side of South Beach so you will have to take an Uber / LYFT to get to the beach.

But you will be close to Wynwood and Design District where it is the happening area for locals.

Also, everything is a lot cheaper. If you want a cocktail on South beach you will be paying about 20 dollars and in Wynwood about 10 dollars.

The only problem is that there isn’t good hotels, so you will have to book an Airbnb.

But hey, there are a lot of Airbnbs, and the one I stayed had absolutely amazing view.

Brickell

Brickell is probably the least attractive neighbourhood for tourist.

It is mostly for locals in finance who live here. But because it is a local neighbourhood, there are plenty of awesome restaurants.
