Things to Do in Dalat Vietnam [I mean THE ONLY Things You Can Do]

There are actually a lot of things you can do in Dalat Vietnam. Because of its highland, it is well known for their coffee plantation. So naturally there are a lot of coffee tours. But there are more than that and here is the list of all things you can do in Dalat.

Crazy House Dalat

Crazy House Dalat is one of the biggest attraction in this small town. It reminds of Antoni Gaudí’s building, but it is not actually built by him. It is built by Đặng Việt Nga who is also a well known architect in Vietnam.

Like the name crazy, it literally looks like a crazy person built it. It is like a maze and you can get easily lost. When you go to the top, it is actually really scary and my legs actually shook cause of the height.

The Crazy House is A Great Place to Visit but Not to Sleep Over

You can also stay here, because it actually operates as a hotel. But DO NOT stay and I will write about it why on a separate post on my own experience staying over. By the way, if you want to find out, you can sign up my newsletter to get an update when I post about it!

I have never seen a building that looks crazy like this and I don’t think I will again anywhere else. It actually was voted on many websites for being unique and different. So if you going to Dalat, this is a must visit!

Maze Bar Dalat

So the Maze Bar Dalat is another thing that you could only do it in Dalat. I am not sure but I think this town’s theme is to build a building in a unique way like Crazy House or Maze Bar. Like the Crazy House, Maze bar is literally a maze where you can easily get lost.

I have spent like 15 minutes walking around and it’s a new path every time I walk. Some areas are really dark and it kind of freaked me out. But it also has an outdoor and a lot of backpackers were just chilling there.

There is also an entrance fee, but you can have one free drink. I assume it is because people just come and take picture and leave without buying drinks. Remember, it is not a museum but a BAR. There are more bars in Dalat, and if you want to know, you can check out my other blog post here

Eating Snails in Dalat

So eating snails sounds gross. Right? Actually it is not. It actually is pretty tasty and I really digged it. It is wrapped with some ground meat and the mix of the snail and the ground meat makes the taste ground breaking.

I ordered a whole pot and ate it all by myself. OK… after awhile it was getting to me. So I didn’t finish it, but this is something you can easily do it in Dalat. You will have hard time finding this delicacy in other cities like Ho Chi Minh City. By the way, if you want to know what you can do in HCMC, please check out my other blog post here.

Learn How to Make Coffee in Dalat

So, this is the obvious thing to do in Dalat. Of course you can do these activities in other countries like Colombia or Brazil. But as the second biggest country to produce coffee beans, I think it makes sense to do some coffee tours in Vietnam.

You can find a lot of tours from Weasel coffee tour, but I hear it is unethical how they treat their animals, so I did a lot of research to find something that will not make me feel bad and guilty.

La Viet is one of the newest coffee tour in Dalat, and they pride themselves on making the best coffee. And you can tell why. I wrote a separate blog post about it here. And you can read why you should go with La Viet if you are doing a coffee tour.

Dalat Tour with Rot(?)

So after reading the Travel Fish recommendation on what to do in Dalat, I decided to try Mr. Rot’s Secret tour. Like the website’s recommendation, it was a different experience and a great way to see different sides of Dalat. So the first part of the tour is run by Mr. Rot’s colleague (He says he is a cousin of Mr. Rot). And then Mr Rot appears at the end of the tour to reveal the secret.

When he revealed the secret, I wasn’t sure if the secret was worth it. I actually preferred the beginning part of the tour more than the secret. If you want to know the secret, you can write a comment and I will reply to you. But the secret seemed to be a bit staged.

Still, the whole tour was definitely worth the money. Even though the last part seemed staged, it was still a great experience and their passion to show the beauty of Dalat was excellent.

Eating Crickets

Eating crickets was something I never thought I would do in my life. But after eating crickets, I was surprised how crunchy it is. I was surprised how it actually tasted like fried chicken. And I was surprised how I might be digging crickets from now.

Silk Farm

Silk farm was a part of Mr. Rots secret tour. If you read some of my blog posts on style section, you will know how much I love silk. And actually going to the silk farm and learning about how they produce silk has blown my mind away. I didn’t know how much effort people put into to get silk.

These are few of the things that you can do it in Dalat. And I believe you can only do it in Dalat. If you don’t think so, and know some other places that you can do these activities, please let us know below comment! I would love to know 🙂
