Monkey Almost Bit Me at Monkey Island in Thailand

Monkey Island in Pattaya Thailand is both a scary and an amusing island. There are more than 100 monkeys running around the island to gather food.

Monkey Island in Pattaya Thailand Is One My Bucket List in Thailand Trip

Monkey Island in Pattaya is the home of crab-eating macaques, also known as Ling Samae. Ling means monkey and Samae means crab in Thai. This small island is part jungle and part rocky beach. This home to hundreds of monkeys are so accustomed to human contact, they will be running to the stony beach when the boat approaches.

Because of Endless Human Contacts and Food, the Monkey Population in Monkey Island Has Grown So Large

Because of its popularity among tourists and the food that was being delivered, the population monkey has grown so large. During off-peak season in Pattaya, the Royal Thai Navy has to provide food to the monkeys to prevent mass starvation. However, during peak seasons monkeys are so eager to get the fruit from the visitors, they literally run into the ocean! We could feed bananas to nuts, but their favorite is watermelon. They will literally fight and become aggressive over it.

Monkeys Can Be Quite Aggressive over Food and Can Bite Us, So BE CAREFUL

Before you get off, one thing the captain will warn you is not to touch them. They can get really aggressive and it is actually scary. Also, they will bite you if you irritate them. When they climb up on you, you shouldn’t touch, but rather let them climb up and voluntarily climb down. It is not everybody’s cup of tea. And a lot of people stayed on the boat.

There are literally 100s of monkeys running towards you as you approach. Don’t panic… Well I panicked when the monkeys climbed up. And to be honest, didn’t feel really nice with all the smell. But I did get a chance to take a picture with them. They look cute from far away and kind of scary up front. Some people seemed to be loving it, and some people seemed to be scared of it. So if you are an animal lover and don’t mind the smell, definitely try going to the monkey island.

There are many island hopping tour that stops at the monkey island. Or you can also hire a private boat to get there. Up to you, but we did the island hopping tour and it was actually really good as the captain was joyful. This is the link to the boat we booked
