Is Poon’s Wontoneria Worth the Visit? (feat. menu)

Poon’s Wontonier is wonton specialty restaurant that also does delivery. It is quite pricey, so I just wanted to see if it’s worth the visit.

You can check my shorts below what I think.

Location and Opening Time

Poon’s Wontoneria is on 23 Charlotte St.

I couldn’t find it at first, so I went up and down several times. But it is inside another restaurant called Carousel.

It is a pop-up for just three month (I guess it will finish by end of April).

The restaurant opens from Tuesday – Saturday from 11:30AM – 3:00PM

Make sure to go early as I went on Tuesday at 11:30AM, it was already busy.

Poon’s Wontoneria Menu

Wonton Menu is (8 pieces, 15 pounds).

  • Pork and bamboo shoot
  • chicken with woodier mushroom and ginger,
  • prawn with bamboo shoot
  • vegetable

There is also wonton noodle with poon’s specialty chilli oil. It comes with five wontons of your choice.

They also sell the wontons (16 pieces, 20 pounds),  along with chilli oil, chilli Vinegar Dressing, WO sauce (XO sauce) and soy sauce. You can check the menu board picture I took above.

Is It Worth It?

I think it is quite expensive for the portion. I still felt hungry when I left the restaurant. I had to eat a ramen when I went back home.

I could’ve had the 8 pieces of wonton and the wonton noodles. Then I would have felt well eaten (Not full though). It would have been around 30 pounds for lunch.

So was it worth it?

I think if you are a type of guy who goes to Din Tai Fung, it is worth the visit.

It is a Din Tai Fung quality with hipster vibe. It looks like they had some natural wine, but not sure if they actually serve wine.

BUT if you are a Wong Kei type person, it may not be the best choice.
