Dong Khoi is one of the fanciest street in HCMC. During the French occupation, it was the hub for glamour and style, and it still is. It has become the center of high-end boutique shops, stylish cafes, high-end restaurants and two of the famous five star hotels – The Myst Dong Khoi and Reverie Saigon.

Probably Reverie Saigon is one of the most famous hotel in HCMC. It almost feels like entering the 1% mansion. Its grandiose style is like the old money. It is like entering RockaFELLA’s crib. I bet you when you first enter you will say “WOW.” But for some reason, I didn’t feel comfortable.
I felt like I was out of place even though they were extremely welcoming (probably because of my insecurity). It felt like I should be dressed nicer than flip-flops and t-shirt to respect the almighty Reverie Saigon. If you are luxury travelers, this will be on par with your taste, but if you are a normal traveler The Myst Dong Khoi would be better. 
After a night staying at Reverie Saigon, I went to The Myst Dong Khoi for few days. It was a lot more relaxing and comfortable. And it was more than just relaxing, it felt right with Ho Chi Minh City. And what do I mean by that? Let me explain it to you.

LOCATION
The Myst hotel is in Dong Khoi where all the luxury brands are at. It is also walking distance to the Saigon river and the square. But you will need a taxi to get to the Backpacker’s district unless you don’t mind walking for about 30 minutes. The taxis or Uber are super cheap, so I don’t think it would be a problem. HOTEL
The Myst Dong Khoi hotel feels like Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. Each room has a big jacuzzi to relax and has a nice garden that makes you part of nature in this bustling city. The hotel was built with a ship wreck in Vietnam to preserve the feeling of this country. You can watch my vlog about the Myst hotel and the meaning of it below.
ROOMS
The rooms at Myst hotel is unique and different than any other hotels I have been. Yes, there were hotels that had outdoor tub or a private pool, but I never been to a hotel with their own outdoor jacuzzi. When it rained, I was singing Miss Saigon’s Songs soaking in the jacuzzi and when it was shinny I was singing Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay in the jacuzzi singing. With your wine glass on one hand, now I really felt like I was on a holiday.
The rooms are spacious even the standard rooms. The toilet has my favorite bidet, and the shower made you feel like you are in a tropical island. The bed was comfortable and big. It wasn’t like the EUROPEAN king bed. It was a proper American King bed.
The wooden floor and the wood doors gives you a soothing feeling. Writing it right now just made me want to go back to HCMC.
RESTAURANTS/ BARS and POOL
There is a bar before you enter the lobby outside. It is a great way to start your night either it’s raining or not. It’s always surprising that you can feel like you are in a tropical island even though there are 1000s of motorbikes passing by.
There is another bar on the roof next to the pool. BTW it is so painful to write it right now because now I have this urge of wanting to go back!!! The bar upstairs were always quite. It is a good place to drink while you are using the pool, but not the best for just drinks (In my opinion).
The pool is a nice size to swim, but the best part is the cabanas where it’s in the middle of the pool. You have to cross the pool to get to the cabanas. It was a nice getaway and I hope there will be more hotels coming up like this.
There is a gym, but it is quite small with limited weights.
The restaurant is decent as they give you breakfast and afternoon tea for free. But it is not the best restaurant. I think there are a lot better restaurants out in the city. I have written the best restaurants that are not pho here, and the best pho restaurants here. You should read these before you go as it will save your time google searching.
CONCLUSION
I think the Myst is one of the kind hotel, especially for what you pay. You don’t have to be paying $2,000 at Four Seasons Chiang Rai to experience the jungle really. OK… this might have been a stretch, but even though it is not the Four Seasons Chiang Rai, it definitely is better than any other Five Star hotels in Vietnam.
