[Why JUST Finding Seven Noses of Soho Can Be Wast of Your Time]

In 1997 Rick Buckley put about 35 noses around London landmarks. The story behind is that during that time, CCTV was becoming a huge problem with privacy. Of course, I think it is now a norm to have a CCTV, but then people were worried about their liberty being watched by the government (It sounds a lot like now with Facebook doesn’t it?).

In Korea, CCTV is such a norm and is everywhere that if you commit a crime out in public, almost 100% you will be caught. Recently China took even further on using CCTV to rate people’s behavior to measure their behavior (You can read about it here at Fast Company). I guess CCTV can be used in a good way or a bad way. I guess Facebook could have a different meaning in terms of privacy after 20 years.

Do You Think Facebook Privacy Issues Were Like the CCTV Isuues in the 90?

Anyways, Rick Buckley wanted to tell a story with nose sculptures about CCTV, and I guess he tried to say “right under your nose.” However, since then most of the noses disappeared or are taken down. Now there are only about 10 left.

And 7 are in Soho and now they are called the seven noses of Soho. Apparently now the myth is that if you find all seven, they will bring infinite wealth. I am not sure if this will be true, but let’s hope that is the case. .

Try to Plan Some Time to Spend in the Neighborhood While Looking for the Noses

If you are interested in going to find it, here is the map of it below. I don’t think you have to go see all the seven noses. However, this could be a fun thing to do while in London, because all the noses are in the main tourist attractions. Also, spending your day just looking for the noses can be stressful and waste of your time. But if you do this with other activities, it can be a great laugh when you find it on the way to some Chinese food in China town or to Barrafina in Soho.

I will provide some of the things you should do or go eat while you are at the nose taking pictures.

3 in SOHO

Soho is not only a great place for shopping, but also to eat great food. One of my favorite restaurant is Barrafina. It is a one star Michellin star and has the best Spanish tapas in London. There is always a huge line, so if you are going for dinner arrive around 4:45 to avoid the que. If you want to know more why there are people waiting on line for this amazing restaurant, you can read it here

So one of the nose is right next to Barrafina, Quo Vadis restaurant. Sometimes, it is hard to find becaause it is covered with tables and plants. It is on the right corner of the Quo Vadis restaurant, so open you eyes!

Another favorite place in Soho is Dean Street Townhouse. It is one of the original Soho house and is still one of the most beautiful hotels in London (They recently build a mega hotel call N.E.D hotel, and you can read about it here). If you get a chance or have some extra cash to spend, you should try to stay at Dean Street Townhouse (You can read about my thoughts at Dean Street Townhouse here).

At the end of Dean Street Townhouse, across the street, look up. You will find a nose quite high up. I was taking pictures of the nose, and suddenly a lot of people stopped and took pictures with me lol.

The Nose next to Dean Street Townhouse was quite high up on the wall

You can also spend sometime shopping around here. There are many boutique clothing shops in Soho, but my favorite is Machine-A and Dover Street Market

Dover Street Market
The third one is at the Milk Bar

1 in CHINA TOWN

I will be honest. London’s China town is my favorite place to visit. I can go for my hotpot (Watch my video eating hot pot and sweating like a pig)  and go to few bars around here. It is always a blast in China town. If you want to know where to go for authentic Chinese food in China town, please let me know below comment. Also, if you are looking for the best cocktail bars in the area, also write a comment below. I am more than happy to help!

1 in TRAFALGA SQUARE

Trafalga square is my favorite square in London. Not only cause its grandiose size of monuments but because of the performers here are so impressive. It is a great to take pictures for your instagram, but there is one nose hidden in the arc. It took me a while to find it, but I eventually did.

The nose is where the black circle area is at 🙂

The nose is in the middle bit of the arc. So if you want to take a picture up close, you have to be brave and go through the cars. I will pin point in the picture, so you don’t have to wander around the arc.

1 in COVENT GARDEN

Covent Garden can be a tourist trap, but still it can also be interesting if you go to the small side streets where all the nice little shops are hidden. It is where all the street performers do their thing, and to be honest, it is quite interesting to watch.

I usually just pass by Covent Garden to go to certain places but don’t really stop by to see what is going on (Maybe I should though), so it is hard for me to tell what to do, but Visit London has listed things to do in Covent Garden and you can check it out

So, there is one nose in Covent Garden, but also an ear. I am not sure who did the ear, but you can easily spot it on the way to find the 6th nose.

7th Nose Is the Mystery

So I thought the 7th nose was the one at King’s Cross station, but apparently there is another one in Soho. I didn’t find it, but if you did please let us know below so we can all have the infinite wealth!

I know finding seven noses in Soho can be funny and stupid at the same time, but this is something that is unusual, and will give you a good laugh. Even though not a lot of people know about this interesting noses, there are pretty good group tours that you can take as well
