Best Options from Narita Airport to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara or Tokyo Station
There are several ways to get to city centre from Narita airport.
You can choose your transport option by neighbourhood.
I couldn’t find a blog post that organised by town, so here it is :
- Skyliner : Ueno Station | 2,570 Yes, 40 Min, Interval : 20 – 40 min
- Access Express : Asakusa, Ginza, Shinagawa City, Haneda Airport | 1,050 Yen, 60 Min, Interval : 40 min (There is another local train, but it is more for Japanese locals, so don’t worry about this option)
- Narita Express : Tokyo station, Shinagawa, Shinjuku station, Ikebukuro station | 1,270 Yen, 60 Min, Interval : 30 – 60 min
Where to Get Train at Narita Airport
Like any other major airport, the signs are clearly indicated.
All you need to do is follow the sign “Train.”
.If you do, it will lead you to basement with multiple train logos.
You can first get your SIM card and currency exchange on the ground floor.
Narita Airport to Tokyo by Train
It is a bit more expensive than Limousine, but trains are the best option cause you don’t have to worry about traffic.
Types of Train
There are three types of train – Skyliner, Access Express, Narita Express.
The price is Skyliner > Narita Express > Keisei Access Express.
You can check the price (2023 price).
Skyliner
The train I took is Skyliner.
You can get your ticket at three locations. Skyliner counter, ticket machine and Skyliner Customer Service Centre.
You can always buy it at the airport, but you will get a little discount if you buy it online. I compared all the companies and Klook and Get Your Guide was cheaper with 2,300 Yen (270 Yen cheaper).
Check the Price on Get Your Guide
If you buy it online, you can just pick up the ticket at the information center. They will help you choose the time.
You will get a seat number, and the time so don’t miss your train (not that it is easy to miss it since you are already at the station).
You can check your related blog post.

(Keisei Limited Express (Sky Access Express))
This is a normal train. I don’t recommend this train as many Japanses 9-5 workers get on this train.
There is another train under Sky Access Express which is Sky Access local. It is 250 yen cheaper than Express.
You can get it at Skyliner & Keisie Information.
The Narita Express (N’EX)
The good thing about Narita Express is that if you have JR Pass, you can get on the train for free.
If not, you can just buy your ticket at the machine.
Below is the step.
The machine will be the one with red “NEX” sign.
If you struggle to use the machine, just go to JR East Travel Service Center for help.
Skyliner / Sky Access entrance on the left. Narita Express on the right.
The interesting thing about this whole thing is that there is not one company but several companies running different trains (which makes it so complicated).
Narita to Tokyo by Bus
The good thing about bus is that it is cheaper than train.
Also, they drop you off at major hotel chains.
Limousine Bus
Although it might take longer than the train, like I said the best thing about limousine bus is that they drop you off closer to your accommodation.
You can check more drop off points here.
During peak season, make sure you reserve a seat before. Because if the bus is full, you might end up waiting for hours.
Also, it is 100 yen cheaper.
You can also buy your Tokyo Metro pass here if you didn’t order online.

You will know your bus stop number after you get your ticket.

Finally, you can get taxi.
It is about 20,000 Yen (not cheap at all)
Or you can use pick up service which is similar to taxi price .
