St. Albans United Kingdom is where all the commuters (to go to London) live. 1/3 of the St. Albans population travel to London for work. But that is not why I am writing about St. Albans U.K. It got more than just statistics, and it could be a great get away from the busy London.
Where is St. Albans?
St. Albans United Kingdom is only 30 minutes away from St. Pancras International. It is only two stops and cost about 19 pounds to get there. So why should we get out of London and go to St. Albans?
Why Should I Go to St. Albans
In a nutshell, it is a great town to do a bar crawl, because of the pubs are dense in one area. And isn’t doing something English all about drinking beer from 10:00AM? Then, this is a great place to do it. Second, they have one of the most beautiful cathedral in U.K. It has the longest nave in U.K.
Bar Hopping
There are about 20 bars within a mile and you can probably bar hop all the bars in a day. We also pinned all the famous bars you should be crawling below (and in order).
I am sure you will be pretty wasted by the time you finish it. You can definitely skip few. But you have to go to Ye Olde Fighting Cocks which is the oldest pub in England. It is always packed and fun and you get to pass through a nice park to get there. Please let us know how you did it.
St. Albans Cathedral
St. Albans Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral with the longest nave. If you are coming from St. Pauls Cathedral in London, it might be as impressive. This church is impressive, but I don’t think it should be the reason to visit, but this can be combined as you are doing the bar crawl.
You will definitely pass this cathedral to go to the oldest put in England, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks.
St. Albans UK Restaurants
You can always just have your lunch and dinner at the bars where they serve excellent food. We had our lunch at White Hart Bar which was really good (I had the chicken pot pie and it was gorgeous). But if you are looking for something different here are the three that was recommended by my friends in St Albans U.K.
Hatch
Hatch is where my friend Barb recommended to go. It was a modern looking restaurant that sells hamburgers. Yes, I have had better burgers, but it won’t disappoint you.
Dylans
Unfortunately Dylans was closed for Sunday, so we didn’t make it. But if you go to St. Albans, you should try it. Also, please let us know below comment what you thought of the bar/restaurant. According to Trip Advisor, it sounds pretty good.
Thai Rack
Thai Rack is not the best Thai restaurant I have eaten. But their garden is worth giving up the taste. Their garden is overlooking the St. Albans cathedral and having a beer and pad Thai is not too bad (Go on a day when the weather is excellent). I actually ended up enjoying the food because of the amazing weather and the view. OK, I am being a bit shallow I guess.
I think this is a great place to spend a day that is something different than the busy London. Especially if you are a beer drinker. Also, if you are looking for somewhere other than St. Albans, Liverpool is a great place to visit.
It is a city of Beatles and Titanic and there are many things you can do. I have written about the Beatles tour that you can do in Liverpool, and you can check it out here.
