Things to Do in Jeju in Winter and ONLY During Winter

People think Jeju Island is for Summer vacation. It is not true. There are many things to do in Jeju in Winter and things ONLY during winter.

Because Jeju island is down south of Korea, it barely goes under 5 degree unlike Seoul. So it is more tolerable to travel in Jeju.

Of course you cannot go to the beach or outdoor swimming pool but there are fun activities you can only do in the winter.

Hallasan Hike

Hallasan in the winter is the most beautiful time to visit.

From December you will be able to see the snow flowers.

If you look closely on the trees the snows will look like flowers and it was one of the most beautiful thing I saw for awhile (I also thought what it would be to go to the Alps).

There are several Hallasan trails but if you are not a hiker I would just recommend Yeongsil trail.

If you are a trained hiker and want to go beyond minimum hiking you can check our fork and foot. He(?) wrote an detailed blog on all the other 5 trails.

Even if you are not climbing the tough Hallasan mountain hike, you are not missing out on anything, because Yeongsil trail is known to be the most beautiful trail.

It’s about 5.8KM and takes about 2 and half hour. Even if it’s the easiest Hallasan mountain hike, it is not easy the climb.

So, you should be prepared to go hiking.

Jeju Camellia

Camellia only grows in the winter in certain countries like Japan, Indonesia and Jeju Island.

It blossoms from late November to early April. So going to Camellia hill in Jeju is something you should do in the winter.

There are few ways to watch Camellia. There are donation based parks and private park.

Wemiri Camellia

Wemiri Camellia is in Seogwipo, Jeju.

Unlike other parks, it is a private farm.

Usually it is not opened for public but because of its popularity among millennials, the farm is allowing public to walk around.

Address: 904-1 Wimi-ri, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, South Korea

Entrance fee is 3 dollars and they only take cash. Also there is no bathroom, so make sure you do your thing before getting there.

Because it is a private farm, they don’t allow people to go all the way in.

If you are for a quick photo, I would recommend but if you want to properly enjoy I recommend Camellia Hill Jeju.

Camellia Hill Jeju

Camellia Hill Jeju has about 6000 Camellia so there are plenty to look around and take pictures.

It is a private park, so there are more than just Camellias.

Wemiri Camellia will take about 10 minutes to look around, but Camellia Hill will take about 30 minutes to an hour.

Because the park is catering to Genz and Millennial, there are many photo zones for your instagram.

All I want to say is that entrance fee doesn’t seem like a waste of money.

Also, if you are visiting during summer (eventhough you can’t see Camellia), it is still a nice park with many flowers and trees.

Bonte Museum became famous for Kusama Yayoi’s art, but other parts of exhibition was also interesting.

Especially for someone who is not artsy, I was impressed.
