Things I Wished I knew Before Hiring a Car Rental in Jeju Island

Are you planning to rent a car in Jeju Island? Here are everything you need to know before your car rental in Jeju. 

Requirements for Jeju Car Rentals

This can be very obvious as any country you rent a car, you will need it. 

  • International Driving Permit (IDP) : Make sure your IDP is valid in South Korea before you get it
  • Passport : Rental car company will want to see your passport for identification purpose
  • Credit Card : Many people forget about this, but you need your credit card that you booked your car with 
  • You must be at least 21 year old and have one year of driving experience (or valid Driving license for a year)
  • If you want to rent a van, you must be over 25 (min 26) and 3 years of driving experience

Jeju Car Rental Price

Jeju car rental price ranges from 20 dollars to 100 dollars a day (Peak seasons and weekends can be from 40 dollars to 150 dollars).

If you rent a standard car like Kia Morning, it would be about 20 dollars a day. 

If you are planning to rent a foreign car like BMW, the Jeju rental car price can go up to 100 dollars a day.

Cheap Rental Cars in Jeju Island a Bad Idea?

There are literally 100s of Jeju rental car companies and you have to be careful. 

Some companies will offer you very cheap Jeju car rental price, but there will be 100s of hidden fee. 

Many people get screwed over like this. So it is best to go with a reputable company.

Make Sure to Check Where to Pick Up and Return 

You should always pick up and drop off at Jeju airport. 

It is the easiest and the fastest way to do it. 

There is no Jeju rental car companies inside the airport, so you will have to take the shuttle to pick up your car. 

It sounds like a hassle but it is super easy breazy.

Don’t Bring Your Rental Car into Udo Island

Some people don’t know and accidently bring their rental car into Udo Island. 

Almost all companies in Jeju don’t cover insurance once you leave Jeju Island. 

So if you get into an accident when you are in Udo Island, you are screwed. 

It is better to park your car in Jeju Island and just take a taxi. 

 

There are few other things you should know like the roads are much wiggly and because it is not a road you are used to you should be careful etc. 

But those things I listed are the most important things you should know before driving in Jeju Island.
