Which Area to Stay in Mexico City ( + Safest, Hippest or Walkable)

ㅁWhich area to stay in Mexico City depends on your travel style. So I categorised by travel personality like safest, hippest or walkable neighbourhoods.

Which Area to Stay in Mexico City

To make it simple, there are four neighbourhood you should consider

  • Juarez : Juarez is like the Midtown in NY or Oxford Circus in London. Many travellers stay in this area cause it is close to tourist attractions and established restaurants like Hooters (?)
  • Roma : My favourite neighbourhood. It is the trendiest town. Like Soho in NY or London. It is safe and has a lot of cool / hip / fusion restaurants. Similar to Juarez, but if Juarez is Mcdonald’s, Roma is a small independent burger joint.
  • Polanco : Where all the luxury brands are here. Just like Sloane Square in London or UES in NY.
  • Zocalo Centro Historico : It is like the Time Square in NY or Piccadilly Circus in London

Also if you ask, what is the safest area to stay in Mexico City, I would say Roma, Juarez and Polanco.

Of course, you have to be vigilant walking around at night etc, but I actually felt a lot safer walking around at night in these neighbourhood than walking around in L.A.

Juarez

If it is your first time in CDMX, I recommend Juarez.

From my Room lol

It is tourist friendly neighbourhood with many restaurants and cafes including LGBT bars / clubs.

Also closer to many tourist attraction like Anthropology museum and Angel of Independance.

There are many high end hotels that you are familiar like Four Seasons, Sofitel, St. Regis Hotel and bit reasonable hotel like Hotel El Ejecutivo by Reforma Avenue, Hotel Geneve CD de Mexico, Galeria Plaza Reforma and LaiLa Hotel CDMX.

The pics are from Hotel El Ejecutivo by Reforma Avenue where we stayed

or even more reasonable, Wyndham hotel, Sheraton hotel, Ibis hotel, Holiday Inn

There are hotels that are necessarily famous brands, but have very boutique style hotels.

Ammenities are impeccable, the service is over the top (cause they care and cause the reviews) and mostly these are new properties. For example, Xolo or Reforma Guest House

If you are on a budget hostels like U-Co Juarez or Hostal Juarez are well known.

로마 (Roma)

Roma is the hippest neighbourhood in Mexico City. This is where all the cool, young gen z kids hang out.

폴란코 (Polanco)

If you are planning on luxury shopping Polanco is the place.

This is where many high brand shops are lined up.

Five star hotels like W hotel, Intercontinental, Marriott Luxury Collection are all here.

Also some local boutique hotels like Campos Polanco, The Alest Hotel and Casa Polanco Hotel Boutique can be considered for you.

쏘꼴로 광장 주의 (Centro Historico)

My Mexican friend told me Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico is the most popular hotel in Centro. But there are also Historico Central and  Zocalo Central.
